Guide to Youth QuickStart Classes

Red Ball tennis is named after the red balls made of foam or felt that are used at this stage. Red tennis balls are bigger, bounce lower and travel more slowly through the air, giving beginning players a chance to set up and take a good swing at the ball.



For new players age 4-7

Racquet Size:
Up to 23”

Court Size:
3’ by 18’

Orange balls are made of felt and travel through the air a little faster and farther than red balls. They are the same size as regular yellow tennis balls but bounce lower and move slower. Players at this level are developing their athletic, technical and competitive skills.



For Red Ball graduates
and new players age 8-11

Racquet Size:
23” to 25”

Court Size:
Singles - 60’ by 21’
Doubles - 60’ by 27’

Green Ball.png

Green balls are made of felt and travel through the air a little faster and farther than orange balls. They have a lower bounce than a regular ball allowing faster improvement of tactical and technical skills. This makes the transition to a full-size court at this level much easier.



For Orange Ball graduates
and new players age 9-14.

Doubles - 78’ by 36’

Yellow Ball.png

Yellow balls are what most people know as traditional tennis balls. The balls, courts and racquets at this level are used in most adult matches and at the professional level.



For Green Ball graduates (Yellow)
and new teenage players (Teen).
